Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant Profession: Rehabilitation Therapy Specialty: Physical Therapy Assistant Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: One year preferred in home health care setting License: Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Vermont and New Hampshire or holds a compact license Certifications: Graduate of an accredited school as a Physical Therapy Assistant Must-Have: - Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant - Graduate of an accredited school as a Physical Therapy Assistant Description: Physical Therapist Assistants provide physical therapy services according to a patient plan of care under the supervision of a registered Physical Therapist. They will provide treatment to patients as prescribed by a physician following the initial evaluation of the patient’s physical therapy needs. Treatment will relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance using physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light, and electricity. The PTA will direct and aid patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait and functional training, and activities of daily living. They will make use of equipment such as ultra-violet and infrared lamps, low voltage generation, diathermy, and ultrasonic machines. Observation, recording, and reporting to the registered Physical Therapist about the patient’s reaction to treatment and changes in the patient’s condition are required. Teaching the patient and caregivers self-care techniques and activities as appropriate is an important part of the role. The PTA will arrange for the use of available equipment. Completion and submission of accurate clinical notes and required documentation in a timely manner are expected.
